Sled Dog Adventures 12/11 & 12/12/21

Earlier this month Omen had the pleasure of joining our good friends at Chasing the Wolves for a day of dog sledding. After about a year of training how to hold constant pressure in the harness I decided to finally let her run. Both Taylor and I were surprised by her ability to just naturally watch it click. She naturally has so much power that we put her in the wheel dog position by herself. We did about 2 miles and she held constant pressure in her harness the whole time, dug down hard, and just overall was having a blast! We also ran Styx up front in lead position with Taylors Siberian Husky Ezio. Styx and Ezio have a few months of working together behind them and they were great leaders for Omen to follow. It’s really starting to click for all three of them, and we can’t wait to see what the accomplish as a team in the future. Styx is a hilarious dog to watch, you really have to watch where her ears go when she’s running, most of the time she’s not just paying attention to the trail but also actively hunting for small rodents in the long grass or watching the tree’s for squirrels. But man does she love pulling. If we stopped for what ever reason she would start barking at us to keep going! After a nice run we decided to pack everyone up and head back to our home to hang out and rest for another fun day to follow!

Sunday we met up with Tori and Naga and did another run! This time I decided to sit out I let Tori and Taylor take Omen and Styx to run on a 4 dog team this time with Ezio and Naga! We had Naga and Styx out front in lead and then Omen and Ezio running wheel. They did about another mile out and back and reported back how great my girls did with out me. It was such a proud mom moment! Tori then asked if she could run Styx and Naga together for a bit on her kick sled. I said of course have a blast and off they went! They did another couple miles and Tori was just in love with Styx. I would be happy to let her and Naga borrow her anytime they want! While Tori was off with Styx we did a little training with Omen and Ezio. When they got back we tried to do a little work with Bjorn and he politely said no thank you and reconfirmed he is just a nice pet boy. At that point all of us and the dogs were getting pretty tired so we all went back to my house. Where we all did a little obedience and chatted about our goals with our dogs and what we want in the future for our current dogs and future dogs. I’m so glad to call these ladies my training partners! Here’s to many more adventures in the future!
