My first Breeding
Right after the holiday season, I gave Maris a call and said, "I think it's time." The very next morning, Omen and I packed up our truck and hit the road to Kansas City! As we were cruising down the freeway, we were pleasantly surprised to come across an Aston! I hadn't expected her to join us, but she decided she wanted to go on a road trip too! It turned out to be a perfect addition to our adventure. We met up with Maris in KC, did a progesterone test, and before I knew it, we were on our way to the Ozarks!
Upon arriving at Vom Haus Huro, Jen treated us to an incredible dinner. We stepped outside, and Omen was a bit confused at first, but then he started flirting with Viper. Eventually, we put them together in a spacious kennel and let them flirt it out. About an hour later, we were on our way back home. Maris and I had countless conversations about life, dogs, old colleagues, boyfriends, and everything in between. By 2 am, we finally made it back and fell asleep for the night.
The next morning, we took care of some dog chores, hung out around the house, did some baking, and I even had my first experience at Wing Stop! I got to spend time with XS and Isa's half-siblings, which was fantastic. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences between Isa and the Goose Kids that Maris had. Later, we went back inside the house, dove into some documentaries, and showered love on the older dogs.
On Friday, Maris woke up with a migraine, so I helped out with the dog chores before loading up the girls and heading back to the Ozarks. On the way to Jen's place, I picked up two Pekingeses who needed a ride up North. I met their breeder, who was incredibly passionate about the breed and taught me a lot about taking care of them during the short time I would have them. We packed them into the truck and made the short drive to Jen's. Once again, she cooked an amazing dinner, and we let the dogs do their thing outside. An hour later, I was on my way back to KC.
When I returned, Maris was feeling much better, so we spent some time talking and watching a movie. We cuddled with some kitties and enjoyed some snacks until 2 am!
The following morning, a weather alert popped up on my phone, prompting us to make plans for my departure that afternoon. We took care of some dog-related tasks, packed up our belongings, and I assisted Maris with organizing stacks of Winona and Wednesday. We also groomed her board and trained Rev. By 1:30, I was on my way back home! I was eagerly looking forward to reuniting with all the kids at home and snuggling with Trevor. However, my excitement was short-lived as I reached just north of Des Moines and checked Minnesota 511... to my dismay, the roads were covered in ice. In a state of panic, I immediately called Trevor, who promptly booked us a hotel for the night!
Within five minutes, we arrived at the Hampton Inn, where the staff went above and beyond to assist us. They helped me settle in and ensured that the crates were placed upstairs, away from the bustling crowd. Feeling hungry, I ordered some delicious Jersey Mikes for dinner and quickly dashed to Target to pick up some fun items. I grabbed all the essentials for a rejuvenating facial, snacks, and little toys for the Pekes. As night fell, we cozied up in our hotel room and watched "The Wolf of Wall Street." The girls were thrilled to have an entire queen-size bed to themselves! The next morning, I woke up early and headed down to the breakfast area. I treated myself to a freshly made waffle, while the girls enjoyed some sausage and eggs. At 11 o'clock, we hit the road again, and although the conditions were still a bit slippery, they were significantly better than the previous night!
Around 3 pm, we finally arrived at my grandparents' house. I made sure everyone was safely inside, and Trevor joined us for our annual New Year's Eve dinner. As a token of our gratitude for their unwavering support throughout the year, Trevor and I prepared a feast of steak, crab, and lobster. My grandparents have always been there for us, whether it's watching over some of the dogs, lending a helping hand, or assisting with kennel cleaning and grooming. They share in our excitement for the upcoming Omen babies, and I can't wait to provide you all with an update!
